They'll choose you in the red ocean

Why do ambitious coaches, mentors, and advisors do their thing? What do they seek to get out of their profession?

I can see two key scenarios: make a lot of money or work with a successful high-growth company, like a unicorn startup.

And in today's market, both unicorn startups and big money are generally in the hands of repeat founders.

In contrast to first-time entrepreneurs, they already have experience and resources from their previous businesses. You could try mentoring them, but chances are, they'll outmentor you by a long shot.

At the same time, such seasoned founders sometimes have requests for narrow niche expertise. But they're good at buying it: they have no trouble with the price tag, they have a wide network of contacts, and they have a large choice of specialized experts.

So, if you're just selling expertise, you run the risk of finding yourself in a red ocean without a chance to get through to such a founder.

They also don't need basic courses or unsolicited advice.

It's pointless to tell them what to do or to explain the importance of fundamental tools like customer development. They already know all of this.

For seasoned founders, real value emerges when they start conversing with you as a narrow expert and leave the meeting having learned something new about their business as a whole. They don't need a quick fix along the way; they need a new turn.

Try to communicate with them through questions. So that clients themselves come to understand the solution. And then, when they realize that your work scope is deeper and wider than it seems at first sight, you will start working with the entire business, not just a part of it.

Leveraging this skill, you'll bring more value to your clients and grow your professional market position.

That's exactly what we teach at the Growth Tracking School: work with the business as a whole and bring more value to the client that way.
