— “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
— “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to”, said the Cat.
— “I don’t much care where”, said Alice.
— “Then it doesn’t matter which way you go”, said the Cat.
Check out 4 reasons why setting big goals is really important:
1. Have you ever sailed a boat?
You have location coordinates to get to. You take the helm, and the wind guides you on. But it's always steering you off course.
Your job is to keep tweaking the helm.
If not, you run the risk of finding yourself somewhere in another hemisphere.
2. Along the way, you'll have to make a lot of difficult decisions. How will you make them if there's no goal?
You can reach it in many ways, and you'll always be surrounded by uncertainty.
And if there's no big goal, then you're deprived of even a minimal basis to make decisions.
3. As soon as you have to do some unpleasant tasks (don't worry; you will), you'll get bored and procrastinate. Even if it's a small task that takes you 15 minutes to complete.
You're just not motivated enough.
So, you have to set a big goal to be motivated to deal with challenges.
4. To hold still, you have to run fast.
To hit somewhere, you have to run twice as fast.
If you aim significantly higher than you initially intended, then you have a chance of hitting somewhere.
But if you aim where you intend to hit, you'll hit significantly lower (or nowhere).
Create big goals and overcome constraints on the way to them.
